exhausted gassy wedesday night
i'm bone tired (and very recentlygassy!) i am so tired i have fallen asleep randomly on the couch three times in the last well, three days. and I just want to sleep. but alas, i must complete work on this biology lab assignment due tomorrow morning.
i went by the local used book store, coas, and bought some kid's books for the boys and girls club. my social problems class and multicultural ed require service project and so that is where I am going one afternoon a week. It is going to be my mission to get the kids to enjoy reading. i am not totally clear on how i am gonna do this, except that i think when children, in fact any people, don't like reading it is because they have not been introduced to the right story. they need to experience something in literature that interests them, that is relevant to them. i rediscovered literature recently in a children's literature class, and it has become my desire to try and make difference in the world by inspiring children to a love of stories. to this end i picked up two harry potter books, the first book in johnathan stroud's bartimaeus trilogy, the amulet of samarkand, a charlie bone book, a few spiderwick chronicles books, and the first three series of unfortunate events books. I also think that perhaps with audio books played during quiet time, that children can be subtlety introduced to appreciating stories. i did this with my oldest son to encourage the development of the ability to see stories unfold in his head, mentally, instead of only being able to appreciating stories that are presented electronically or in picture books.anyhow... this is my agenda.
now i am off to complete my assignment. maybe a glass of port and off with morpheus i shall go...
